Bob’s Curly Koa Tenor Ukulele
Yikes! Never too much curly Koa! Here is a completed Hawaiian tenor ukulele with the Kauai compression curl Koa that I showed a few posts back. This heavy curl turned out to be a very difficult build but also very rewarding in many ways. In addition to selecting this particular curly Koa, Bob made a few specific requests including: Paua abalone purfling, no side port, a wide Honduran neck with radiused finger board and bridge, a “C” shaped neck, and a 3 1/4″ lower body depth. Binding is India Ebony, finger board and bridge are African Ebony, accents are Vanuatu Maidou burl, and strings are PHD low “G”.
Here are a few quotes from Bob : “. . pictures didn’t come close in showing the almost 3D look.”; “. . .the sound is so warm and with a deep fullness that resonates forever.”; “The fit and finish is perfect and the neck is a dream, just perfect.” Gee, I feel like a rock star! Thanks Bob.
