Big Baritone Custom Ukulele - Sold
Another Big Baritone Custom Ukulele out the door last week.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: stunning African Pomelle Sapele. Does it get any better? This might be #6-7 with this wood so far and I haven’t been disappointed yet. Normally Sapele is pretty dense but with this figure I have found all the sets to be of lower density somewhat like Honduran Mahogany=warmer voice. It does brighten up a bit with bracing however.
Sound Board: Swiss “moon” Spruce. I don’t have many sets big enough for this size instrument, but in my 2019 delivery, I did receive a few larger pieces. This might be the last though. Swiss is a bit on the warm side as well.
Finger Board and Bridge: radiused Brazilian Rosewood. You just can’t go wrong with a rosewood finger board with 1 7/16″nut.
Neck: Honduran Mahogany with carbon truss rod.
Accent Woods: Sapele.
Binding: India Rosewood with both white and maple/black purfling.
The Rest Of The Build
Tuners: Gotoh 501 mini-ukulele. This is a gold standard in tuners.
Strings: Oasis “linear” baritone.
Fret Board Markers: white MOP.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
And
As expected, a full and warm voice. The scale is 20″ and I like it for the standard DBGE baritone tuning. For slack key, I might consider the 21″ scale. This instrument is both easy to play and easy on the ear. It’s very traditional in appearance. And, I just can’t get enough of that [pomelle Sapele on this Big Baritone Custom Ukulele!
