Koa And Bearclaw Baritone Ukulele - Sold
Here’s the latest, a Koa And Bearclaw Baritone Ukulele.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: Crinkle curl Hawaiian Koa. I actually prefer this curl look over the stacked and straight versions. Koa eye candy.
Sound Board: Alaskan bearclaw Sitka Spruce. Not bad. More eye candy with a nice tone. You’ll notice that the sound hole is on the upper left and that there is no side port. This is another variation on the theme. I do like the sound hole way up. I didn’t think that a side port was absolutely necessary since the sound hole was so close to the player. Personally, the two together isn’t appealing to my eye. The new owner said that maybe a side port here would be an improvement? Really hard to tell.
Neck: Central American Mahogany. Carbon truss rod enclosed.
Fret Board and Bridge: stabilized and radiused Hawaiian Koa.
Binding and Accents: Koa with very simple all black purfling. The rosette is blue/green cultured opal.
The Rest Of The Build
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Fret Markers: white MOP.
Strings: Oasis “Southcoast” linear for baritone.
Tuners: Gotoh super mini 501 for ukulele.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
This one got a favorable review from the new owner. He thought it a bit more focused than another Kimo Big Baritone with Dark Forest Cypress for sound board. Hard to tell for me since I don’t have either in my posession. That said, I ain’t complaining about this Koa And Bearclaw Baritone Ukulele.
