New Mango Tenor Ukulele
Here’s a New Mango Tenor Ukulele recently delivered to Hale Ukulele in San Diego.
I’ve had my feelers out for more spalted mango for some time but have not had much success. This particular Mango Wood has a more traditional look and was found in a cabinet makers shop in northern California last year. It’s not spalted, but it has great colors of browns, blacks and yellow with good beeswing curl. The pictures don’t do it justice since it really glows.
I have accented the build with a Honduran Mahogany neck, India Rosewood binding and new red/brown rope-style purfling with black red fiber accent. The accent wood is Australian Malley burl and the fret board and bridge are India Ebony species.
These Mango instruments have all provided a warm and full sound and seems to have universal appeal with a majority of players. I attribute this to the low density of the wood coupled with my modified “X” bracing.
Gotta’ like the Mango!
