Narra And Primavera Custom Tenor Ukulele - Sold
This is a Narra And Primavera Custom Tenor Ukulele–a standard tenor. The new owner said: “I played for hours last night. . .I fell in love right away!”. That’s music to my ears for sure.
It’s All About The Golden Woods
Body: Asian Narra. I’ve had this wood for possibly 20 years and I don’t know how long Gilmer Woods in Portland held it in stock. I haven’t seen any since. I think that it was used as railroad ties (?) in Australia and in the Phillipines it is/was widely used for furniture. The burl from this tree is Ambonyna and, although I have seen that somewhat available, I’m guessing that Nara is not a wood that will be seen on the open market anymore.
This particular piece has a subtle “bees wing” figure and a golden hue with excellent chatoyance. The tap tone of the wood is very bright somewhat like the rosewoods.
Sound Board: Everyone likes the Central American Primavera. Here’s another example of figure and grain that can occur in this wood. Surprisingly, for a hardwood, it makes a great sound board.
Neck: more figured Primavera. Carbon truss rod included. The neck is finished with epoxy sanded to 4000gt for a really smooth feel.
Fret Board: Asian Afzalia “Zyla”. This is stabilized and radiused.
Accent Woods: African pomelle Sapele with green/black fiber purfling.
The Rest Of The Build
Tuners: Gotoh UPT.
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Finger Board Markers: white MOP.
Strings: Pepe Romero, low “G”.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
The new owner said it all: “I like it’s voice–nice and warm.”–he’s a guitar player. “The wood combo is perfect!. “I was in awe when I saw the detail of the Narra’s natural beauty.” “. . . FATE–this ukulele found me!.
What can I say? This Narra And Primavera Custom Tenor Ukulele built well and sounds good and I love a happy player.
