Koa Double Puka Baritone Ukulele - Sold
The second instrument to go out last week is this Koa Double Puka Baritone Ukulele. Got a Hawaiian theme going on here.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: Curly Hawaiian Koa. This set has a little bit of all figures: curly, compression and crinkle.
Sound Board: master grade Alaskan “bearclaw” Sitka spruce. The double puka soundhole design has more active “working” surface area than the center sound hole design and brings the sound closer to the player as with a side port. No side port here.
Neck: Hawaiian Koa. Maybe not the curliest in town but then how often do you see this? Carbon truss rod and sanded epoxy finish.
Fret Board and Bridge: got ‘yer Brazilian Rosewood here.
Accent Woods: all Koa.
Binding: Hawaiian curly Mango with green/black fiber purfling. Rosettes are double row Paua Abalone.
The Rest Of The Build
Tuners: Gotoh 501 mini for ukulele.
Strings: Oasis “southcoast” linear with wound D/G.
Fret Board Markers: white MOP.
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
As I said in my last post, each of the three baritones in my possession had their own tonality; but, I really didn’t have a favorite. This instrument with its denser Sitka top seemed to have a little more punch than the Swiss “moon” Spruce but as the strings started to set in I felt that perception might not have been quantifiable. I like the look of course and plan to make more so there you go, double up or double down with a Koa Double Puka Baritone Ukulele.
