Custom Chocolate Heart Mango Tenor Ukulele
Hey Ya’ll! Here’s another Custom Chocolate Heart Mango Tenor Ukulele.
This instrument was custom for Sheila who liked the last one that I built for Hale Ukulele San Diego so much that she had to have one of her own. We made a few changes for her though: a smaller neck, no Paua Abalone purfling (rosette only), a MI-SI pick up, and Fremont “Black Line” strings. Otherwise I kept the build as much the same as the last.
This is a very woody-looking instrument. The Mango shows a little bit of everything that Mango can have with a little spalting, good chocolate colors, some curl and a littlebit of quilt as well. The addition of an African Black Limba neck and Munn Ebony fret board and bridge just adds to the woody look.
The last Custom Chocolate Heart Mango Tenor Ukulele was strung with GHS Flourocarbon strings and it had a very warm and enviting tonal quality with good volume. Sheila asked for a different string set-up on this instrument and I complied with the Fremont Blacks but with a wound low “G” per her request. I can only describe this instrument as punchy and bright, with even more volume. Since the builds were almost identical I can only attribute this difference to the strings.
Here’s Sheila’s comments: “I absolutely love my new uke…The action is fabulous. Feels like my fingers are flying!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! With clients like Sheila how can I go wrong. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
