Blue Plumeria Koa Concert Ukulele
Here’s an instrument delivered to Hale Ukulele a couple of weeks ago. I’m calling it the Blue Plumeria Koa Concert Ukulele.
This particular set of Koa wood comes from the same billet according to my supplier. Every side of the instrument is a little different but I will take them at their word. There’s lots of fun color, curl, crinkle curl and some spalt to really keep the eye busy.
I inlayed blue paua abalone plumeria flowers in the ebony fret board. I think that I like these better than the white mother-or-pearl flowers that I used on the last instrument. The color of the flowers goes real well with the blue paua ablalone rosette. The purfling accent is black and white fiber while the binding is India Rosewood.
Here’s a real good look at the Asian Satin Wood burl accent wood on the back of the head stock.
I used Romero/La Bella low “G” strings on this instrument. I replaced the brass wound low “G” string that this set comes with and replaced it with a silver wound string. It seems that the brass wound string is just a little too dominant to my ear on this particular model. It is interesting to note that I use the same strings on my soprano pineapple model but I keep the brass wound string in the set. Go figure?
You might expect to see more of these blue flowers in the future.
Happy Holidays to you all!
