Sound BoardWestern Red Cedar.  To compliment the tone of this wood I used a lower density bracing of Alaskan Sitka Spruce–good choice.

Western red cedar sound board, Thuja burl bridge.

Fret Board and Bridge:  This is another example of Thuja Burl.  Stabilized and sealed with acrylic to improve the color and surface hardness.  Not radiused but bound. This is a standard 14.70″ concert scale.

StringsPepe Romero flourocarbon with wound low “G”.  Not too heavy for this instrument.  The slightly heavier E/A add just a touch of tension.

And.

I was pleasantly surprised.  This little instrument has a lot of voice.  I’m not a big fan of this scale length so have built most of my concerts the last few years with a tenor 17″ scale and 15 frets to the body.  The burl woods don’t have a lot of voice so with these instruments I’m really relying on the sound board for tone.   I believe that the western red cedar with low density bracing did do the job here.  The result is another “never to be duplicated/one-of-a-kind”  Burl and Cedar Concert Ukuele.
