Custom Koa Tenor Ukulele - For Sale $1650
Just got the strings on this Custom Koa Tenor Ukulele. This is a super tenor shape.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: all stacked, curly Koa. Koa wood has an infinite variety of color and figure. Although I favor the more bizarre figures, occasionally I like the highly prized, tightly stacked curl. I do like this look. I’ve used a classic double “puka” sound hole design on this build–it’s so Hawaiian.
Fret Board and Bridge: Black Palm. Should be locked up for using this wood? Not sure. I was looking for something a bit different for this Hawaiian build. The brown tones fit the build with a tropical look and feel. I’m not sure why this wood hasn’t been used before since it is definitely hard and dense with no visible pores and takes a polish well. It is radiused.
Binding: curly, Hawaiian Mango with blue/white fiber purfling accents.
Purfling: Paua Abalone.
Neck: Honduran Mahogany with carbon truss rod.
The Rest Of The Build
Accent Woods: curly Mango.
Tuners: Gotoh UPT.
Fret Board Markers: Paua Abalone.
Strings: Pepe Romero, low “G”.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
And
Definitely a koa sound–mid-ranged with bright notes. I didn’t put a side port on this instrument because I don’t like the esthetics with this sound hole placement #1; and, with the upper sound hole closer to the player I don’t believe it is as much a necessity #2. I definitely like a Custom Koa Tenor Ukulele.
