Imbuia and Cedar Custom Ukulele

Imbuia, Koa and Claro walnut.

It’s All About The Woods

Body:  lightly figured African Imbuia.  I was going for a dark look to really showcase the sound board and this imbuia fits the bill perfectly.  It’s not a particularly bright wood and it does have a bit of a funky smell but it finishes very well and provides good balance for. . .

Sound Board:  . . . this beautiful piece of Alaskan “Earthtone” Cedar.  I’ve used this salvaged wood before and I still think that it is one of the best sounding woods around.  Aging and the elements have changed the wood from soft to firm and the tap tone is bell-like with excellent sustain.  The colors can be different for sure but that’s okay by me.  This pictures shows the color almost exactly correct, while the others in this post show it a bit lighert or even orange-ish.

Neck: a combination of curly Koa and Claro Walnut.  Internal carbon truss rod as usual.  It doesn’t show but I’m working on new neck profiles that I believe are more player friendly.  And, the neck is finished only with epoxy sanded to 4000gt.
