Koa and Maple Custom Tenor Ukulele - Sold

Out this week is this Koa and Maple Custom Tenor Ukulele.  This is a super tenor.

Koa and Maple Custom Tenor Ukulele

Blondish and curly-ish Koa.

It’s All About The Woods

Body:  blondish and curly-ish Hawaiian Koa.

Fletch matched koa top, back and sides.

Neck:  In my efforts to explore other possibilities for necks rather than Central American Mahogany I’m adding curly American Big Leaf Maple.  This wood is domestic, available and like with this piece, dramatic in appearance.  The weight gain in the neck is not as dramatic as anticipated.  It is, however, a bit more difficult to shape than mahogany.  Carbon truss rod included.

Koa and Maple combo.

Binding:  Curly Maple to match the neck.  The purfling is black/purple but the purple appears almost black.   The rosette is paua abalone.

Fret Board:  Afzalia “zyla”.  Stabilized and radiused.  Turned out to be a pretty good match.

Accent Woods:  Koa.

The Rest Of The Build

Tuners:  Gotoh UPT.

Strings:  Romero low “G”.

Fret Board Markers:  white MOP.

Nut and Saddle:  unbleached bone.

Case:  Crossrock ABS.

And

Typical Koa  note focused and clear.  I’m still liking the off-center sound hole design for most instruments, particularly on hard wood topped instruments.  A more open sound board does make for a fuller sound and that is the case with this instrument.  Go maple and go Koa and Maple Custom Tenor Ukulele.
