Colorful Curly Koa Custom Tenor Ukulele
I was going to keep this set of curly Koa for myself. I should have kept this curly Koa for myself. I didn’t! This Colorful Curly Koa Custom Tenor Ukulele went to a good friend of mine in NorCal. This is another example of salvage Koa from the Big Island of Hawaii that I obtained from Allied Lutherie. Just goes to show what nice things can be made from what others would consider leftovers. This set of wood had a lot of fun things going for it–namely great colors and really exciting curl. These pictures just don’t do it justice.
The body was accented with blue Paua Abalone purfling and Fuschia colored accents and the binding is India Rosewood. The India Rosewood just seems to go with almost every combination of woods that I use.
The neck is Koa and the finger board and bridge are India Ebony. I like the India Ebony that is currently available since it is usually totally black.
The accent wood is rosewood from South America.
The tuners are Gotoh UPT’s and the strings are my standard GHS flourocarbon with low “G”. This Colorful Curly Koa Custom Tenor Ukulele has a sound that is smooth and lusty. A great finger-style instrument. What a dummy!
