Hale Holiday Fare 5 - Contact Hale Ukulele
The last instrument delivered last week to Hale Ukulele is this all koa, long neck concert ukulele. It is Hale Holiday Fare 5.
Pretty much a straight forward build–it is a blend of moderate to severely curly koa.
It has an extended scale (17″) which is the same as tenor. I build 15 frets to the body to try and get the bridge into a more tonally favorable spot on the sound board. The 17″ scale allows players to move between instruments more easily. This scale also provides better string tension to the instrument. These instruments have more volume than the standard concert. The result is more sustain with concert brightness.
I used white/black fiber for the purfling accents and Asian Sindora burl for the wood accents. There’s paua abalone for the rosette–sometimes simple is better. I like to let the wood speak for itself.
Santa’s done with Hale deliveries for this year! Check out Hale Holiday fare 5 along with my other interesting builds and Ric’s superb stock of Hawaiian ukuleles.
