Koa Curls and Bearclaw Tenor Ukulele - Sold
Got curly Koa? You betcha! This is the Koa Curls and Bearclaw Tenor Ukulele.
The Woods
Body: Blond and curly Hawaiian Koa. This wood is “rift sawn”, cut not totally perpendicular to the grain. This gives the curl more of a “crinkle” appearance–my fave.
Sound Board: Alaskan bearclaw Sitka Spruce. I chose a wide growth ring wood for this build which is lower in density. I love bearclaw spruce.
Neck: Honduran Mahogany with Koa lamination and carbon fiber tone bar.
Finger Board and Bridge: a “certain” Rosewood.
Accent Woods: Brazilian Lacewood.
Binding: Your standard curly Koa in brown tones.
The Rest of the Build
Purfling: Black/fuchsia fiber. Blonds love fuchsia.
Strings: Pepe Romero flourocarbon with wound low “G”.
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Tuners: Gotoh UPT in black.
Case: Crossrock fiberglass in blue and red.
And
My opininon is that this one sings–and, I don’t even have the strings fully tensioned yet. The medium bright Koa with a low density tonewood top and quality accessory woods seems to be a great combination. The instrument has great curb appeal without compromising the tonal qualities of the woods. Koa Curls and Bearclaw Tenor Ukulele. ‘Nuff said!
