Crinkle Curl Koa Custom Tenor Ukulele - Sold

I really have a problem when it comes to crinkle curl Koa–for me, it’s the greatest!  Here’s the latest with some of the best yet.  This is the Crinkle Curl Koa Custom Tenor Ukulele. This is a super tenor shape.

Koa and more koa.

It’s All About The Wood

Body:  billet matched crinkle curl Koa.  I like it all, but crinkle curl is still my favorite.  This look is created when the wood is cut off the perpendicular to the grain (rift sawn).  You’ve got to be careful when trying to match the book-match because the mirror image disappears pretty rapidly.  Think I got pretty lucky here.  Another of my off-center sound hole instruments that I am favoring at the present.  No fancy extras here, the wood is just too damn crazy all by itself.

It’s a match.

Binding:  curly koa with pale green and black fiber purfling.  A little paua abalone and koa for the rosette.

Abalone and Koa rosette.

Accent Woods:  well, curly Koa of course.

Neck:  Honduran mahogany with carbon fiber truss rod.

Finger Board and Bridge:  Brazilian rosewood.  Radiused with a 1 7/16″ nut.  I got talked out of doing the curly koa for finger board and bridge on this build but BR is the holy grail of woods for this purpose.

And

Looks pretty nifty and sounds pretty nifty too. I’d like to say that all the Koa looks are good but this one is pretty distinctive.  It’s really about the sound though, don’t you think?  I’m lost in the curls of the  Crinkle Curl Koa Custom Tenor Ukulele and I can’t find my way home.
