Koa And Walnut Tenor Ukulele

Da back–like da front.

Back to the future with this Koa And Walnut Tenor Ukulele.

Koa and Walnut Tenor Ukulele

Blister curl Koa.

It’s All About The Woods

Body:  a combination of the rarely seen “blister curl” Koa for the top and back and curly Bastogne Walnut for the sides.  I’ve done combination wood ukes for years but not recently except for tonewood tops like Sitka.  This instrument is a bit of a departure from that standard with the matching top and back and alternative look side.  The colors are complimentary and definitely provide fun looks to the instrument.  This is a super tenor shape.

Koa And Walnut Tenor Ukulele

Bastogne walnut sides only.

Accent Woods:  curly Bastogne Walnut.

Koa And Walnut Tenor Ukulele

Walnut and koa accents.

Fret Board and Bridge:  radiused Brazilian Rosewood.  Brazilian is one of the holy grail tonewoods and the color of my current stock goes extremely well with most koa’s.   Why so special you ask–it’s the brilliant tone and sustain.

And

I had some fun with this build.  First, I’ve had this blister koa forever.  I purchased the wood for alternative top use so there was never any sides.  I have extra sides of Bastogne walnut but no tops.  Well, there you go, a marriage made in heaven.  Since the sides make little, if any, difference in sound production this could have been done with most any material.  My selection was purely for esthetics.  Tonally, the instrument is all Koa.   This Koa and Walnut Tenor Ukulele is definitely a one-of-a-kind!
