Custom Koa Concert Ukulele - Sold
Post slam! Here’s the next build: a Custom Koa Concert Ukulele.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: It’s a Koa fest (or, death by koa) with top, back and sides of dark, curly, chocolate Koa.
Fret Board and Bridge: More curly Koa. This is stabilized wood so it is much more dense than natural and will resist finger oils to boot. I couldn’t resist the alternative colors on top of that dark koa body. This is a long neck, 17″scale with radius.
Accent Woods: Koa, of course!
Binding: curly Koa with Paua abalone purfling and emerald green purfling accents.
Neck: Honduran Mahogany with carbon fiber truss rod. I don’t have any curl koa stock for necks–too bad, I guess.
The Rest Of The Build
Tuners: Gotoh UPT.
Head Stock Accents: Koa with a “bits and pieces” inlay of paua and MOP over emerald green wood.
Strings: Pepe Romero Low “G”.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Fret Board Markers: Paua abalone and white MOP.
And
I’d say that this instrument works the “fun” factor. At least that was the idea. Dark, curly Koa–yumm! The Paua abalone looks good on the dark koa background. The curly koa fret board and bridge are an eye popper. And, the headstock inlay is a bit frivolous. The sound is koa, of course, and the volume is almost the duplicate of my standard tenor ukulele. I actually thought that this might be my last concert ukulele but I’m re-thinking that since I’ve already selected a set of curly koa for another Custom Koa Concert Ukulele.
