Maple And Koa Custom Ukulele - For Sale $1650
This is a Maple And Koa Custom Ukulele. A super tenor shape.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: a combination of Curly Big Leaf Maple and Curly Koa. I liked the last combo of Koa and Walnut so much that I decided to do it again with a different look. The koa is only moderately curly but that light sapwood strip in the center calls out to the maple sides and accents. A serious instrument with some alternative appearances for the individual that just can’t make a decision on wood. This is the first instrument I’ve made lately with a traditional sound hole. I think there is a bit more brightness with this architecture while the off-center sound hole might provide a bit more depth. It’s really hard to quantify when the woods of each instrument are so different.
Neck: Honduran Mahogany with a maple lamination. The laminations are solid and glued with epoxy. This might be a no-no in higher tension instruments but not with the ukulele. In addition, there is a huge piece of high grade carbon fiber routed into the neck so all is well.
FYI: The necks are now finished only with epoxy and are sanded to 4000gt. I find this finish to be super smooth and virtually impervious to sweat and hand creams.
Finger Board and Bridge: radiused Brazilian Rosewood.
Accent Woods: curly Maple.
Binding: Curly Koa with blue/black fiber purfling.

And
Good pop on this one. Still has that big body warmth and sustain but some Koa brightness to go with it. The strings are a bit new as yet so my opinion may change a touch. Just another fun build this Maple And Koa Custom Ukulele.
