Myrtle Concert Ukulele
By request from Ric at Hale Ukulele, I have added a few concert ukuleles to my build schedule and here is the first one for the new year. Ric didn’t make a specific request for woods so I had my way with selecting woods that might be a little different than the usual. If you have followed me for any period of time then you know that I do like the variety of different appearances of Myrtle wood and my total disregard for conventional looking instruments.
This concert uke is constructed of solid Myrtle wood with the body and sides of chocolate heart myrtle and the top of compression curl Myrtle wood. I think cedar would also have been a really good choice for a top on this instrument.
I used African Black Limba for a neck since it seems to be a real good match in color for these myrtle wood instruments. The finger board and bridge are Macassar Ebony.
The binding is India Rosewood with red/black Maple purfling. The accent wood is Vanuatu Maidou Burl. I plan on delivering this ukulele to Hale Ukulele tomorrow.
Go Myrtle!
