Quilt And Curl Maple Tenor Ukulele - For Sale-$1550
Another PNW special now available. This is the Quilt And Curl Maple Tenor Ukulele.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: Quilt Big Leaf Maple. This is a classic maple look and I rarely get tired of the variations. Also, this is NOT stained–an example of how maple colors can vary.
Sound Board: straight grained Port Orford Cedar. This wood came from a fallen tree in the lower Oregon region about 10 years ago. POC was the staple of American made classical instruments for a long time. Now, it is difficult to obtain in any quantity. It has a tap tone that is somewhat of a cross between Sitka and Red Cedar and has a reputation strength. Plus, it smells great!
Neck: a lamination of quilt Maple and blond curly maple. The neck has a sanded epoxy finish for extra smoothness and wear resistance.
Fret Board and Bridge: stabilized, radiused big leaf Maple Burl. I’m becoming more fond of these fret boards each time I use them. Not only are they distinctive but I believe they will hold up well to wear. Since they are impregnated with acrylic I would expect that finger oils will not be an issue over time. The frets are glued for added security.
Binding: blond curly Maple with blue/black purfling. The blue is pretty dark so it doesn’t show as well as expected, but it’s there.
Accent Woods: curly Maple, of course!
The Rest Of The Build
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Fret Board Markers: White MOP and Paua Abalone.
Tuners: Gotoh UPT.
Strings: Pepe Romero, low “G”.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
Another “fun” build. The sound, as expected, is a bit more focused and not quite as warm as the Mango Tenor previously posted. I have them both here now for comparison. This is expected since the POC sound board is much brighter. The maple is not as reflective as a rosewood but provides good balance. Domestic and non-endangered woods make this Quilt And Curl Maple Tenor Ukulele especially friendly.
