Spalted Mango Custom Tenor Ukulele - Sold
Weeding through my stash of forgotten woods I came across this colorful set of spalted mango. This is the result: a Spalted Mango Custom Tenor Ukulele. This is a standard shape.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: Spalted Mango. When I did my first spalted mango ukulele many years ago I wasn’t sure just how it would sound. The wood just doesn’t have a great tap tone–kinda dull. I’ve learned, though, that these low density woods can produce some pretty nice sounding instuments.
Binding: Curly Mango with black/maple purfling accents.
Neck: Spalted Mango laminations–why not. I did one of these combinations on a recent Koa build and really liked the look. Very light weight. There’s a massive carbon fiber truss rod imbedded in the neck so no problems with stabilization.
Fret Board and Bridge: African Ebony. I thought I’d keep it simple since there’s so much going on with the rest of the instrument.
Accent Woods: Curly Mango.
The Rest Of The Build
Tuners: Gotoh UPT.
Strings: Pepe Romero, low ” G”.
Nut and Saddle: unleached bone.
Fret Board Markers: white MOP.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
Sounds good–full, volume, warm/mid-range. And, it looks distinctive as well. Go big, go Spalted Mango Custom Tenor Ukulele ‘fer sure!
