Imbuia And Primavera Tenor Ukulele - Sold
This is an Imbuia And Primavera Tenor Ukulele. I’ve got a lot or instruments in the works now but the weather here in San Diego hasn’t been cooperative for finishing. Here’s the first so have at it.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: Lovely, figured African Primavera. It’s been about 20 years since I’ve used this wood. Not because I didn’t like it, but only because I couldn’t find any decent pieces. This set has all the attributes I look for–cut, color and curl. The tap tone of this wood is on the warmer side, but I ain’t complaining.
Sound Board: I liked the last Central American Primavera topped instrument so much that I had to do it again. This time with the darker, warmer Imbuia body. I believe the tap tone of this wood might be a cross between Koa and Mahogany. In any event, it works.
Binding: Curly Hawaiian Koa with red/black purfling accents.
Accent Woods: Primavera.
Neck: Honduran Mahogany with carbon truss rod. The neck is epoxy finished and sanded to 4000gt for a super smooth feel.
Fret Board and Bridge: stabilized, Asian Amboyna Burl. 1 7/16″ nut and radiused. I do like fret board and headstock inlays, but how do you embellish such natural beauty. Fun, fun, fun!
The Rest Of The Build
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Strings: Pepe Romero, low “G”.
Fret Board Markers: white MOP.
Tuners: Gotoh UPT.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
I think the best term for sound is “luxurious”. it has warmth, depth of tone and sustain–at least to my ear. I do have the Brazilian rosewood and Swiss combination still available which I find to be just a bit more focused and maybe favoring the treble a bit?? Anyway, I’d play an Imbuia And Primavera Tenor Ukulele anyday!
