Dark Forest And India Rosewood Custom Ukulele - Sold
I think this super tenor has one of my favorite wood combinations. This is a Dark Forest And India Rosewood Custom Ukulele.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: Old growth India Rosewood. I purchased this set from Elite Tonewoods who purchased it from a retired luthier who purchased it a long-long time ago. What a score. It’s so dark that growth rings are almost impossible to see. And tone? Well, it’s a classic, right up there with Brazilian.
Sound Board: another old wood is this “Dark Forest” Cypress. Probably cut anywhere from 150-300 years ago and submerged since.
Neck: Central American Mahogany. Carbon fiber truss rod and sanded epoxy finish.
Fret Board and Bridge: African Ebony. Another find since it’s totally black.
The Rest Of The Build
Binding: curly Hawaiian Koa.
Purfling and Rosette: blue Paua Abalone. Too bad the pictures don’t pic the true colors up that well. And, maple/black purfling accents for the sides.
Head Stock: India Rosewood with a Paua wedge.
Tuners: Gotoh UPT.
Fret Markers: Paua Abalone.
Strings: Romero low “G”.
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
It’s got a classic look and a classic sound. This one plays easily but holds up well when played with a heavy hand. I’ll have to say that I really prefer a more classic look these days and this instrument has got it for sure. And the woods, OMG! What’s not to like about a Dark Forest And India Rosewood Custom Ukulele?
