Macassar Sinker Redwood Pineapple Ukulele - Custom Build-Sold

The Macassar Sinker Redwood Pineapple Ukulele is the result of a request for an alternative wood instrument.

First you got yer Sinker Redwood Soundboard.  Yup, the stripey look is pretty normal for this water aged wood.  Just try and count the growth rings in this set!

For back and sides the request was for this fun, reddish Macassar Ebony.  I’ve used this a couple of times before in standard builds.  It was really nasty bending this time?

It was my decision to go with a redwood neck.  This is not your usual neck wood.  I’ve used it, perhap, three other times with good results.  Yes, it is somewhat brittle but super light and once finished and glued to the body the brittleness doesn’t seem to be a concern.  Of course, there is that massive carbon fiber tone bar embedded in the neck as well.

I went all the way with the Macassar look using it or both the finger board, bridge and sound hole rosette.  I didn’t oil the wood so that it would have it’s natural contrast with the darker finished woods.  Kinda fun!

And to finish I am using pinkish, blond Mapple Burl, Black Gotoh tuners,  maple/black purfling and Pepe Romero low “G” strings.

I haven’t built a pineapple yet that didn’t have a big sound and I think that this macassar sinker redwood pineapple ukulele is on the top with super punch from that redwood top and sound reflection from the dense Macassar back and sides.  This should be a great addition to your collection Mr. Falsetto!  Thanks.
