Munn Ebony And Moon Spruce Baritone Ukulele - Sold
One of two out this week is this Munn Ebony And Moon Spruce Baritone Ukulele.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: Asian Munn Ebony. Pronounced “mun”. Not your typical black and white look for sure.
Sound Board: Swiss “moon” Spruce. I thought the warmer tonality of this spruce would be a good match for the reflective qualities of the ebony.
Binding: curly, blond Hawaiian Koa with maple/black purfling. Black MOP for the sound hole rosette.
Neck: Central American Mahogany. Color-wise, I think this is the best match for this look of Munn Ebony. Carbon truss rod. Finish is sanded epoxy.
Accent Woods: Munn Ebony.
Fret Board: Brazilian rosewood. Nothing but the finest here.
The Rest Of The Build
Tuners: Gotoh 501 mini for ukulele.
Strings: Oasis “Southcoast” linear DBGE with wound D/B.
Fret Markers: white MOP.
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
I like this combination. I’m waiting for feedback from the client since he just received last night. I had 3 bari’s here for comparison–all quite different wood combinations. I can’t say that there was a clear winner. Each one had its own voice but all three sounded good to my ear. This instrument seemed to have a bit bigger base side but I’m thinking that was due to the sound hole placement (the other two were double puka and center sound hole). Overall, I believe the balance is good. So there you go y’all, its Munn Ebony And Moon Spruce Baritone Ukulele time!
