Custom Claro Walnut Baritone Ukulele - Sold
My kind of build is this Custom Claro Walnut Baritone Ukulele.
Let The Woods Speak For Themselves
Body: highly figured Claro Walnut. I’ve built a lot of claro walnut instruments over the years. It’s one of my favorite woods to work with. Rarely, though, have I seen claro as beautiful as this. It’s got the three “C’s”–cut, color and curl. I’d like to say that this is the type of build I now prefer. It’s a “no frills” build displaying the natural beauty and tonality of wood. I’ve got to try one with Sitka and Swiss Moon for comparison.
Sound Board: Dark Forest Cypress. I picked a piece that had a bit more brown in it to go with the claro. This combo is one of my favorite looks. You might notice, though, that the sound hole is now on the upper left and closer to the player with no side port. I do believe that this might be the natural progression in my instruments. I wanted to go with the “edge” sound hole but for the price that build is a bit too complicated; although, I do believe it is the best of both top and side sound holes/ports. The upper right brings the sound to the player without the side port (redundant). You’ll also notice that the sound hole is about the same size as a center sound hole.
Fret Board and Bridge: radiused Brazilian Rosewood.
Neck: Central American Mahogany with carbon truss rod. The neck has a sanded epoxy finish.
Accent Woods: Claro Walnut.
The Rest Of The Build

Tuners: Gotoh 501 super-mini for ukulele.

Rosette: Red Opal.
Binding: curly Big Leaf Maple with red/black fiber purfling.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
My kind of build and my kind of sound. This one pleases my ear. I don’t like to work too hard playing anything and this baritone is both easy to play and easy to listen to. Even my wife liked it when I first tuned it up and the strings weren’t even to tension–go figure? I need a Custom Claro Walnut Baritone Ukulele for my own!
