Koa And Engelmann Spruce Tenor Ukulele - Sold
Here’s a new Koa And Engelmann Spruce Tenor Ukulele. This is a standard tenor shape.
It’s All About The Woods
Body: micro-curl Koa. Koa just keeps on giving and this set is proof. I’ve yet to see curl this tight. This satisfies my cut, color and curl catagories for sure.
Sound Board: Engelmann Spruce. All the instruments that I have made with this wood have been a touch on the bright side (at least to my ear) even with the Pepe’s low “G” strings. Since they have all been from the same billet of wood I can’t as yet say that all Engelmann spruce is tonally the same but that is my current opinion. For a low density spruce I feel that it can also be pushed a bit, so “punchy” might be a decent adjective as well?
Binding: Curly Koa with turquoise/black purfling accents.
Fret Board and Bridge: this is stabilized and radiused Afzalia zyla burl. I first saw this wood about 20+ years ago but it was never available. It is right up there in the unique and chatoyant categories for sure. 1 7/16″ nut.
Neck: Honduran Mahogany.
Accent Woods: Curly Koa and Mango.
The Rest OF The Build
Strings: Pepe Romero.
Tuners: Gotoh UPT.
Nut and Saddle: unbleached bone.
Fret Board Markers: white MOP with turquoise on the top at 7&12.
Case: Crossrock ABS.
And
I’ve already said on the bright side–at least when compared with my standard sound which tends to the warm side. Good sustain as usual. A Koa And Engelmann Spruce Tenor Ukulele is a great instrument for either strumming or finger-style playing. And that finger board–yikes!
