Brazilian Rosewood And Swiss Custom Ukulele - For Sale $1650

This is a Brazilian Rosewood And Swiss Custom Ukulele.  A super tenor shape.

Brazilian And Swiss Custom Ukulele

Swiss “moon” Spruce sound board.

Let The Wood Speak For Itself

Body:  Brazilian Rosewood. I used to say that this “holy grail” wood was probably not the best of choices for ukulele but I’m starting to change my opinion a bit.  There’s no question that this wood has a brilliant, sustained tap tone that is a very sought after attribute for guitars.  Well, there’s a huge volume issue there.  But, thinned appropriately and paired with the right top it makes for a darn good ukulele.  That’s a Martin-style mini zipper back strip addition.

Brazilian Rosewood back and sides.

Sound Board:  Swiss “moon” Spruce is my pairing of choice here.  This spruce is of moderate density and has a warmer tap tone then some other spuces like Sitka.  I believe it might be the perfect pairing for this bright Brazilian back.

Curly Koa accents.

Head Stock:  Brazilian combo.  There are some small wood faults in there.  Not a big deal, I believe, but these were the only pieces leftover from the back.  Trying to keep the look as consistent as possible.

Fret Board and Bridge:  radiused Brazilian Rosewood “full Monty”..   Fret Board markers are Paua abalone.

Brazilian Rosewood finger board and bridge.

Neck:  Honduran Mahogany with carbon fiber truss rod.  All epoxy finish sanded to 4000gt.

Koa accents, Gotoh tuners.

Accent Woods:  Curly, Hawaiian Koa all the way with blue/black purfling accents.

Rosette:  Bluegreen synthetic Opal.  You can ask Eric Devine, who has used this material from the same supplier for years–it’s a chore to install.  But, it’s pretty bitchin’ when you get it right.  I’m still learning.

Blue synthetic Opal rosette.

The Rest Of The Build

Tuners:  Gotoh UPT.

Nut and Saddle:  unbleached Bone.

Strings:  Pepe Romero, low “G”.

Case:  Crossrock ABS.

And

I don’t think I left anything out.  Overall, I like the look and I like the sound.  Sometimes it all comes together that way.  The strings are still not set but I’m getting the sustain, brilliants and basses when I want.  If I can acquire some more Brazilian at the right cost then I’d like to do more with Swiss for the sound board. Nothing like a Brazilian Rosewood And Swiss Custom Ukulele.
