My Kine Koa Tenor Ukulele - Sold

This is My Kine Koa Tenor Ukulele.  This is a super tenor size.

My Kine Koa Tenor Ukulele

A paua abalone palm and moon inlay.

It’s All About The Wood

Body:  curly Hawaiian Koa.  This particular set has a bunch of fun looks with crinkle curl, compression curl and fun grain pattern.

My Kine Koa Tenor Ukulele

Crinkle and compression curl combo.

Sound Board:  Engleman Spruce.  I’m really getting into this wood.  To my ear, it is brighter than Sitka but because of it’s lower density it seems easier to play from the start?  This is the last piece of this particular billet so my next Engleman builds may prove enlightening.

My Kine Koa Tenor Ukulele

Engleman spruce sound board.

Binding and Accents:  well, Koa of course!

Neck:  Honduran Mahogany with carbon truss rod.

Fret Board and Bridge:  stabilized curly Koa.  I’m having these new finger boards stabilized by K&G (knife and gun) professionals in Arizona.  They are super efficient and have their own proprietary materials and technique.  I’m definitely a koa fool!  Radiused with 1 3/8″ nut.

Stabilized curly koa finger board.

The Rest Of The Build

Nut and Saddle:  unbleached bone.

Fret Board Markers:  Paua on the top at 7/12 and white MOP on the sides for all.

Strings:  Pepe Romero low “G”.

My Kine Koa Tenor Ukulele

Curly koa accents of course!

Tuners:  Gotoh UPT.

Case:  Crossrock ABS.

And

What I’m building now are instruments that I would build for myself.  The focus here is on the natural beauty and tonality of these woods. This one got snatched up by a former client before I could bring it to market; but, there will be more to come I’m sure.

I liked this one as soon as I got the strings on–fits my hand and my ears.   I think my client will like this one too and even more as the wood opens up with a bit of playing.  This is definitely My Kine Koa Tenor Ukulele.
